This is hilarious, and yes, terrifying. It gives you some indication of what lies ahead if you overcome the enormous odds against you and actually get published in the first place. Sadly, i'm at least as clueless as this guy (The awesome Dennis Cass) is parodying. Yikes! That's the game. You can either play or take your ball and go home.
This isn't that different from visual art. We like to pretend the business side doesn't exist and have to wall off the creative side to let it thrive and grow, but in the end if nobody makes any money... You have to keep the creative pipeline open, keep honing your technical skills, and devote some time to educating yourself about the business side of it and getting comfortable with that reality. Otherwise it turns into a pipe dream pretty darn fast.
