Double shifts = quickie posts yo

This is kyped direct from fellow writery type
Jen Blom's blog "Tell It".

If anyone knows where to find this bird I'd like to hire him as my personal mascot.

Still Kinda Rowdy Feeling

OK-- Now I'm taking a break from horses for a while. Finished rowdy up today, and I'm pretty happy with him too. He had a different feeling to him than the last one, a little more intentionally naughty, not the same high-strung vibe. This feels more like some non-fancy kind of horse who just wants not to be bossed around. Hmmmm. Go Rowdy!

I'm still feeling a little like this too, although it's less busting-at-the-seams than it was a couple days ago. Tonight walking around town with Pam these teenage boys yelled at us out their window as they drove by and I was totally laughing at them and yelling "come back here and say that wussys!" Yeah. Like that. Heh. They thought it was funny too, waved and cracked up.

Tomorrow I'm going to start a new sculpture that makes NO sense right now, because it's bigger, and is going to be a weird one-- a ghost character from my book, but I just have to do it to get her out of my system. Hopefully it'll go fast, be awesome, and someone will just have to have her.

The rewrite is coming along. It's totally insane to undertake a revamp of this scale when I gave that agent a tentative (note back-pedaling) self-imposed deadline of, like, a week from now, but it's another of those things I just have to do. So, double shifts for now. Gotta ride the sets as they show up sometimes.

Well, that's it. Remember to shake it at some point. Last night it almost happened-- I almost fell right out of the shower I was rocking-out so hard. Maybe I should install one of those little "help-- I've fallen" pull cords for future rocking-out mishaps?

I Can Turn On A Dime Yo

Today went so much better. I have to say my welding mojo was working ovah-time and I was pwning it big. This guy's name is Rowdy. When I do a sculpture I go from the feet up and it's all about biomechanics and balance, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when ol' Rowdy decided to show off a bit and stand all by himself on only two hooves. Granted once his back end is all armor clad I'll have to put him on a stand, but this felt really good.

In other SueNews-- two betas have reported in with awesome feedback and great suggestions. Man, it totally pays off to have smart friends. Now I'm going BACK into rewrite mode, but I'm not willing to half-ass this. A-game right? -- All the way.

Tonight went on an awesome icy run with Trusty Pam. When she fell I stopped to laugh and got as far as saying, "ooo-- Pam goes down" in my sports announcer voice then I totally fell on my ass and slid down a luge/giant ice hill. Laughed my butt practically off-- so good for you. WHEW!

Grabbing The Hose

Hey people, Sue is going through another phase where the little clockwork mechanism inside me somewhere is rapidly picking up speed, and feels like it could fly apart at any moment. This means everything and everyone is suddenly way too effing boring for me.

My code isn't all that hard to crack. I have a really specific personality type that's pretty textbook if you know about this kind of stuff. When I was young this feeling fooled me into thinking every night was going to be a spectacular, mind-blowing fun-fest, and sometimes, if I found something thrilling enough to do, it was. Giant, crazy fun was just over the next hill-- exciting-- exhilarating illicit fun! I could feel it! But, usually, it was just disappointing. Giant bong hits make you care less you're disappointed and bored, but even that gets really super boring after a while, and is a hassle anyway. Those days are long over.

Now at least I know what this is, even if it occasionally pisses me off. I sometimes miss the "bad old days" of doing insane dangerous stuff and being all reckless, but, now I try to just aim all this pent up energy at something productive. (Grabs hose and blasts away)

Still making naughty horses I guess. I kind of wanted to take a break from them and had a couple of other more calm sculpture ideas that I do still like, but I'm still feeling kind of like this guy.

Thank goodness for this (art), and for characters I can fling into exciting danger, running, and for Dan, who doesn't always get me, but doesn't expect me to explain myself either. (Hit the LOVE tag if you don't get how main a cog he is for me) (or THIS for the reader's digest version)

That's it for now. Time to go be all disgruntled and sweary.

Brad Sucks

Hey people, welcome to Fav Music Fri again. Today's post is rather hastily done, but I am busy yo.

I've featured Brad Sucks before, but for the uninitiated-- he's a guy up in Canadia (Brad), and he doesn't really suck. Not at all. I really dig his music big time even though he shows me no love what-so-ever and seems to be completely ignoring me on twitter. (casts askance glance northward)

He offers his music open source on his site, and goes with the philosophy that most people will probably just be cool and pay him for it. Check it out. Best $20 I spent all year, and I am cheap.

This is a vid he just finished that is a collab of fan vids. My fav's are the two girls with pretend guitars. They're total dorks, and appear to be fine with that. I'd totally hang with them. Also the Batman dude-- You know how i feel about the whole super hero thing-- win! -- OMG, and the little kid-- you have to go to his site and watch that kid's whole submission-- hilariously awesome! Actually, everyone in the vid is pretty cool. That bad-ass kid at the end cools the place up, and the mustache guy looks pretty hangable too. Hair guy brings that heavy metal cred. I love this idea and how Brad's fans are so on board and creative.

Enjoy. Remember to shake it at some point, and support artists you enjoy by buying their music-- from them when possible.

Splash Horse

Advice of the day-- never eat half of a football sized Chipotle burrito right before you run 5 miles. That is all.

On to more pleasant things.

I was so happy with little horse I began making another one right away. The plan was to use another technique, so the style would be a little different, and I was hoping it would go faster. One out of two isn't bad I guess. This one took four days too.

When I was making this one I kept thinking about the only horse I ever owned- A "National Show Horse" (half-Arab, half-Saddlebred). He was a total nutball and I had no business buying him. (As you can see in this shot I initially had some neck issues. That was like revising-- yep, that's a neck alright, but it's not HIS neck. Keep tweaking until it fits.)

This horse was only about three, and totally green. He'd been raised mostly as a poorly-behaved, spoiled pet. I was taking jumping lessons and had just moved from the inner city (ok-- the hood actually) to the sticks. This horse was always playing around and getting into stuff, and was way too smart for his own (or anybody elses) good. One time he broke into the barn in the middle of the night (because I only paid to pasture board him), went around opening all the other horse's stalls, then broke into the latched feed room. Yeah. They were pissed in the morning.

He like to play chase, and was always following me around like a dog in the pasture. Sometimes he'd get rowdy and absolutely tear ass all over the place bucking like he was a freaking rodeo bronc. When the hoof trimmer came he'd try to stand up on the little thing he was supposed to politely place his hoof on. That guy hated him.

He wouldn't even stand tied. Well, he would for about two seconds then turn into a chestnut tornado of hooves and a giant whipping around head. When I'd ride him he'd jam his head back into my face (one time he gave me a fat lip with this trick), run backwards (yep, even with a crop), rear (had to martingale him w/ a tie down), scoot sideways (he had crazy knee flexion, probably a killer polo horse), spook at his own farts, birds, imaginary things only he saw. He was super unpredictable and as a newb jumper I wasn't up to the task. Turns out 1200 pounds of goofy, undisciplined, playful horse, who doesn't think anyone should be able to boss him around is pretty dangerous.

I Made this guy splashing, -- playing around like I remember seeing my guy do. (I actually got him a kiddie pool once.) As I was working I couldn't stop thinking about my characters and story either though. It's kind of hard to leave that for now (the writey thing), but I have to be super productive. (and I haven't heard back from the beta's yet anyway)

Near the end I was thinking "This guy kind of reminds me of Dave" (a favorite character). I'm not going to be the one to tell him he isn't real. This little horse definitely took on a life of his own.

I think I got his feisty personality down. This goes back to how horses would be if they could get away with it. I'll never own another one. I'm over it, and kind of conflicted about them. We kind of oppress them, bend them to our wills, and I guess I identify too much with that. No judgement on anyone else. I'm certainly not opposed to anyone else having them. It's just my own thing. They are beautiful and I'll always love watching them and making them.

Weird Wed-- Finger Twist Of Doom-- Oh, plus a zombie doll

Hey Freaks—That’s right, it’s Weird Wednesday again. Don’t panic, there will be a creepy doll at the end. You can always scroll if you totally can’t wait. (God you people are weird.)
First things first though.

Wii has been once again macking on Dan. I know! It tries to undermine me when it thinks I’m not paying attention. Check out what happened the other night when I stepped into the kitchen for a moment.
Busted. You can't tell in the pic, but "heavier" was flashing, and another screen would come on that said "like a wildebeest".

Yeah. Then when Dan said he thought I was in fightin’ form it comes back with this—

Uh-huh. See? See where this is going? Now granted I’ve been a little scrappy this week (one night I did my little elbows-out feisty walk at Dan and ranted about how “Didn’t he know by now I’m just for decoration?!” after being expected to not only feed the cats, but ALSO turn off all the lights, furnace, AND get him a glass of milk. Sheesh. Really.) – but I hardly think I can be usurped by a hunk of plastic.

WiiFat likes to go on about how many days it’s been since I was last on it, trying to make me feel all guilty and couch-potato-y. Like that stupid jungle river bubble game is so strenuous. It’s more like some bizarre acid flashback. Actually—those penguin outfits? And that balls going through the holes in the boards game? Total stoner fodder. And panda heads?—Whoa, that is just sick dude.

Let’s see you run 5 miles outside, in winter, up and down hills WiiFat. Come on. I’ll time you. GO. Yeah, thought so. Pathetic.

I’m not just pointing at you I’m busting out my patented finger-twist-of-doom on your ass.
Observe. Regular, semi-threatening pointing. (Note Mike- aka Meathooks in the background looking mildly perturbed.)

Now— ~TWIST~ —much more menacing. See Mike? The poor cat is immobilized by terror! I point and twist at you WiiFat. You have incurred my wrath!

Ok, you’ve patiently waited. Here’s probably the creepiest doll I’ve posted so far and it’s courtesy of Slagporter Beth. Thanks Beth, nice find. Way to sniff out disturbia.

Your work/school week is now half over freaks. Try to shake something hard today.
Later.
